Open Cell Polyethylene
Open-cell foam is the least expensive laminating option and is usually utilized in expendable packaging applications. The cell structure of this foam provides a soft, cushioning surface as well as abrasion protection. Where life expectancy of the packaging is of lesser concern, open-cell foam is an economical option. Open-cell foam is usually laminated to one side or two sides of a plastic sheet or a paperboard substrate and can then be die-cut, slit or scored. It can also be used loosely to wrap the product. The densities of open-cell foams are around 1/2 to 3/4 of a pound per cubic foot.
